Suffocate a carp? you do know that they can survive 45 minutes out of water and swim away like champs...even more finicky fish like smallmouth and brookies can survive 15 min out of water after being chased in a tank for 10 min. Granted it does take them approximately 2 hours to return to homeostasis at that point. Give the kid a break, he's doing fine.

you can tell your a novice, 1. ya dont put a fish on bare ground, you either have a unhooking mat or you find thick grass, 2. you dont put ya finger in a small fishes mouth dur to fish suffercating, 3. if it is hooked in the side ov the mouth it dont take 15 seconds to slip it out, 4. it dont take 3 mins every time ya cast it out NOVICE!!!!!!

just a tip i find useful, dont play the fish with the rod quite so vertical, play it more to the side, then only raise the rod when the fish is ready for netting, that way i find the fish does surface to far out. its just a prefrence, good fishing though :D keep it up.
