Background music by Rose Constort - SOLD as of March 5th -This is a handsome 1920s full size French Strad copy crafted in plain maple and spruce. The violin arrived with no varnish, yet was very dark in color. I added a subtle brown ink decoration to the back plate before re-varnishing the instrument. The back decorations are based on a Victorian pattern, much classier than most decorated instruments available today. The violin is fully blocked and lined and in fine playing condition.

The ribs and back are very plain but reflective maple. The spruce top is one piece, and exhibits nice 'bear claw' figure with the grain becoming tighter on the treble side. There is a resin pocket/flaw in the top over the upper treble corner. The violin is nearly repair free, with the only repair being an old corner repair on the lower bass side. All blocks and joints are secure! The purfling is not a traditional inlay, but rather scribed with a steel stylus in ink.

All fittings are hand polished ebony. The tailpiece is older than the violin, from the 1890's. It's a nice German tailpiece with lovely decorative fluting. The tone of this violin is very strong, and would be fine for an intermediate student.
