  • The worst thing about being raised without birthdays wasn't that I couldn't have a party, but because I didn't know how to logically explain to my peers why I didn't celebrate it, or why I didn't wish them a Happy Birthday. It never made sense to me.

  • For me I understood why. It made sense to me then. But a child will believe anything its told, even if its told about tooth fairies and easter bunnies. Tell a kid that birthdays are evil and they will believe you. That's why the Bible says to become like little children - because it's little children who are gullible enough to swallow such nonsense.

  • Thank you for this video. I plan on showing this info to my JW parents to see what they think.

  • Judging by the comments here, I predict they'll just fire off a couple inane excuses, but good luck.

  • @utukkuxul

You were right. It was worth a shot though.

  • haha... what were their excuses, out of curiosity? That wedding rings are a "conscience matter" so suddenly they're absolved of all their paganism?

  • My family has been associated with the witnesses every since my Grandfather was stationed in the navy in Philly. He was an honorary pall bearer for JPJ. I am not a witness but I am associated due to my family. What motivates a person like you to do what you do? It reminds me of a harrison ford movie. The bad guys were punking out the amish. Can you give it a fuggin rest amigo?

Often these people have no other means of social support, due to the organization's strict doctrines concerning non-association with anyone outside of the religion. In such cases, the disfellowshipped individual must suffer their loss of social isolation alone, often leading to major depression, PTSD, and other anxiety or mental disorders. Is this the way loving people should behave towards their family and peers?

I don't hate JWs, and I don't think I've ever expressed such. JWs, for the most part, are some of the nicest people you could hope to meet. It is a shame, however, that the Watchtower organization exerts such pressure on its members that they must cast away and shun friends and family members who have transgressed in some small way, or for expressing differing ideas or questions concerning the organization.

  • @cridantis

I find it amazing how much hate there is for Jehovahs' Witnesses

  • I totally agree! I'm an ex jw and I used the same logic to justify celebrating birthdays!!

  • excellent points

  • @worldhistory2011 Wow, I was raised a JW and I never knew that. I just assumed that you'd get punished.

  • You raise some great points and I agree with you 100%, but I'm pretty sure a JW would still be "couseled" or disfellowshipped for celebrating their birthday.

  • If you look up birthdays in the encyclopedia you will come to realize that Christians did not celebrate birthdays as they viewed them as pagan. So if you lived in the first century with peter, Paul, john and so forth they would have not celebrated any birthday.
