storypeddler - I called them "lies" primarily because the title gets attention and may cause people to see these videos. If a statement is untrue, I'm calling it a lie here to make a contrast. I don't mean to suggest that those who teach these things are intentionally lying. I taught them myself for many years and was very sincere and loved Jesus Christ. They are "lies" in the sense that they are not true.

The problem of sin is the reason that unbelievers are condemned. Their unbelief in and of itself is not technically the reason that they will die, but rather the fact that they sin against God. They must believe in Christ because of their sins, because He was the sacrifice for the said sins. I'm not disagreeing with you, just making this clear. It's therefore not a lie that the Holy Spirit convicts unbelievers of their sin. The original problem is sin, not unbelief.

Yes, I agree. The sin nature is the problem of everybody before we trust Christ. It isn't just a matter of doing wrong (sins) but that we ARE wrong (sin nature). He convicts us of that fact and leads us to believe in Christ for salvation.

I think the scripture you use means, "The Spirit convicts (convinces) the world of their sinful state for the purpose of letting them know that they need to trust Jesus."

The word convict truly means to find guilty or to convince. It doesn't mean to point out an action for correction, which seems to be how you are using it in the video. I think the Holy Spirit will use unbelievers sinful actions to help them identify that they don't know Jesus, as He did with me.

It took me a while to figure out what you meant. I think what you are saying is, "The Holy Spirit isn't going to say to a unbeliever "You need to change your ways." The Holy Spirit is only concerned with the fact that they need to know Jesus Christ. He won't convict in the sense of "you need to correct this." "

@hellbindercda No Scripture says "God does not convict people of sin." But we do have a clear word from Jesus Himself, who said of the Spirit, "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment" (John 16:8). So you have to argue with Jesus on that one.

@CRoadwarrior sorry its not semantics. the same holy spirit who inspired the accurate retelling of the upper room also spoke through the apostle Paul and the writer of Hebrews. God flatly does not convict people of sins. their consciences do. but when you come to the cross and believe the true Gospel of grace your conscience is purged and you have perfect fellowship with God.

um original sin is itself a lie.. but you are correct in that the sin of unbelief is the issue. 2 cor 5 18-21 clearly teaches that God does not impute "sins" to anyone in the world because Jesus paid for all sin. the message we share is not "repent from your sin" but your sins are forgiven be reconciled to God by believing the good news! it is truly amazing how many completely scewed up doctrines are believed and taught in churches.

Semantics. Scripture does not say that the Holy Spirit only convicts of unbelief. Peter told Ananias that he and his wife lied to the Holy Spirit, a specific sin. The Scripture says He will convict the world of sin. This by implication involves sins of specific nature. So I must disagree with the semantics here. There is no "lie" but a claim based on semantics.

Concerning the Holy Spirit, Hebrews 10:17 also CLEARLY states that He shall remember our sins AND our iniquities NO MORE! Also, That there is NO MORE rememberance of sins because Christ's blood has TAKEN them away, completely remitted them. So by baleiving this retarded crap about the Holy Spirit pointing out your faults, sins, convicting or condemning or reminding you etc of your wrong, is INSULT to the Holy Spirit, it is a MOCKERY of the Cross, and you are calling God a liar. Think abt it!
