The Ultimate Sacrifice

By Tal Lynch

Mary! Mary! Why are you crying?
Why is the sky so hauntingly dark? (Chorus)
Why is the thunder and the storm?
What are those three crosses on the hill?

Mommy! Mommy! Why are you crying?
What message did those soldiers bring?
Why all the tears? Why the gloom?
Does this mean Daddy's never coming home?

Baby! Baby! Why are you crying?
Life's an open book for you,
Full of hope and promises,
The future your's to dream and make!

How many lives have now been saved
Crusading with the cross, marching on to war?
How many more would have been lost
Our father's not off to battle?

Child! Child! Why do you cry?
Whose grave is that, whose tombstone?
It's mine I know I gave all for you,
For you were my promise, my dream, my hope for the future!

Another day, another time, another storm.
Armies keep marching, Mommies and babies keep crying.
If only everyone could come to realize
The ultimate sacrifice was made on that hill top so long ago.

Mary! Mary! Why are you crying?
Why is the sky so hauntingly dark?
Why is the thunder and the storm?
What are those three crosses on the hill?
... and what is that light beyond?

***END***

This poem is dedicated to my father, Lt. Col. Leonard P. Lynch, US Army officer and a gentleman, who went off to war many times and fought that his children might have a better future. He is gone now, yet our nation is still at war. The better future he made for me and for his wife is reflected in this poem/song, for I never followed him off to war. Instead, I am a poet and fight my battles with a pen!

  • christianity is a religion plagerized from an egyption cult.

    therefore, your jesus is fail.

  • Get real! Christianity is based upon the life of Jesus Christ and his teaching of love! If Jesus Christ were alive today he would still be teaching everyone to love, especially terrorist who want to blow themselves and everyone else up for Allah!

  • Yes, imagine how different our world might be if everyone realized that life was meant to make and share love, not war! If everyone could see the light we would have no "War on Terrorism!" All our wars would be fought against poverty, hunger and to save the children!

  • religions are fake its the biggest brainwashing ever, there are so many holes in the rules and facts of religions,

religions are the main causes of war, humans are evil creatures who would lose their minds if they would have to spend forever in heaven with no violence whatsoever, look at the media: music movies games books, just about evereything is based about violence and nobody cant do shit about it

  • Really.

While having respect for every soldier having risked or given its life for an ideal, that's how battles should be fought: with words, not with weapons.

When they talk about wars, they make them seem made of numbers.

    Instead, how many Souls suffer!

How many single Human Beings see their destinies tragically changed!

To think that that Ultimate Sacrifice, on that hill, was meant to teach Love...

    Thank you for sharing.

  • This is so pretty but so sad! A beautiful trubute and message. You should post it on the contest video.

    *kisses*
