@jwmb224 Rat tails are not that common anymore really.... at least we don't see many. We have 40+ reg. Apps here in our breeding program.

No, there are few modern Appaloosas with "short" or sparse tails anymore.
This colt is only coming-3 years old in this video, so his tail is not short for that age of horse.

Yes - I started him... this is the "starting process" you are seeing. I always begin with ground work (loose in round pen) then when the horse is ready, move to the saddle. This video was taken within the first 30 days of riding on this colt.
