Shooting and discussing one of the most common single action revolvers of cowboy action shooting, the Ruger New Vaquero. This one is in .357 Magnum with 5 1/2" barrel. The holster is El Paso Saddlery.
Gun belongs to Dave Evans, a good friend, shooter, and horse trainer. If you're a "horse person," you can see videos of him demonstrating his equestrian skills at www.youtube.com/user/horselovermagazine

  • @Weaponcollecter16 Thank you, Weaponcollector16. All we can draw on in the end is experience, so an educated opinion can be worth its weight in gold, why we all have such enthusiasm for Mr. Hickok and watch his videos. Funny enough that you bring up semis, I recently shot a Sig P250 and I dislike it. There is a 3rd category of semi now, double action only, I didn't have any experience until I felt the long trigger pull every time, and I couldn't get a good group at 20 yards.

  • @Gun4Freedom I have to agree with you. I always found that the single action style handguns are divided in to two division; the mordern mechanism and the classic mechanism. Kind of like semi automatic handguns are divided in to two divisions; hammer fired and striker fired. In regards to the classic mechanism the Colt SAA is the best, and in regards to the modern mechanism the Ruger is the best. All of this is in my opinion, of course.

  • six is my favorite number

  • @Morepullups I know I am not Hickok, but I figured I could help ya. Ruger is well known for having very good single action pistols, it's what the company was first built on in the late 1950's and 60's. Some say the best single action is the original Colt Single Action Army, but it's a different market pistol ($1200 vs. $500 for the Ruger). A lot of folks who get a Ruger will also pick up a spring kit to lighten up the action too, they are readily available in different spring strengths.

  • I bought one.I got the Ruger New Vaquero .45LC/.45ACP convirtable in high gloss stainless 5.5"barrel.It is a Davidson's Exclusive. What a nice cowboy gun.

  • How smooth is the cocking the hammer on that Mr. Hickok? What is the smoothest and easiest you have owned?

  • When did they start making them in chrome finish? 2nd gen?
