In the eastern middle hills of Nepal, growing food requires the land, people, animals, and seeds working together. USC Canada's Seeds of Survival program has worked with farmers, the land, water and seeds in this part of Nepal for close to 20 years. The rivers dominate these communities; filling and flooding each year. They can bring great fertility to the soil or cover fields with a layer of boulders - ending agriculture forever on that space of land.
The rivers are powerful. It's not feasible to stop or contain them with cement and steel. But w hat does work is a series of steps with the river, soil, people, and animals all working, living, and learning together. This short film -- featuring just the voices of people living in these communities of Eastern Nepal and the staff of USC's partner, Parivartan Nepal -- shares the challenges and successes as well as the beauty of what has transpired in this riverbank rehabilitation.
