The Philippine Studies Program, or PSP, is a study abroad program that takes Filipino Americans to the Philippines, and help them rediscover their roots. Based in Manila, the students live and attend classes at the University of the Philippines Diliman. Basic Tagalog, Philippine history, and Philippine music are just a few courses the Filams must participate in. To get a better understanding of the class situation in the Philippines, the students attend community outreach fieldtrip to urban poor areas. These urban poor communites consist of landless peasant farmers rural areas, and also relocated Filipinos of Smokey Mountain, a dump site. Both academia and outreach, PSP helps Filams fill between their American upbringing and their Philippine roots. A journey that ALL Filipinos should go on.
These 3 videos are short diaries that detail my experiences of the program. They were also aired on Balitang America, a News program on ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel. I hope to re-edit and extend these 3 videos soon. Till then, please watch and enjoy. 1
I went on the UC-EAP program that was the predecessor to PSP at UP. I ended up staying in Manila for almost 2 years. Watching your video takes me back...
