@chvrles Hmm....I am 2 years in now and I can honestly say that everything depends on your internet connection. After 2 years, I can say that I like using a standard phone over their Telo Handset as the range isn't the best, but as for the service, nothing but great things to say. It only goes out when my internet goes out...as with any other Voip service.

@mushroomhill When you purchase the unit, you setup your account online using the information on the box. Once that it done, you get a phone number for your box. If you wish to port an existing number, it takes a few weeks, at which time you will swap your old one for the one that you registered with the box.

Lucky you! We had another outage for a few hours a couple of weeks ago. Our high-speed Internet acess was all good. I think the problem is that I live in a high-density area and their gateway gets over subscribed.

@chvrles That sucks, I guess here in Iowa we don't have enough subscribers to cause that. I have had a few times that I had internet but the phone system was down, but I reset my router and it came back on just fine. Since then I have upgraded to an Apple Time Machine and have not had a single problem with any of my devices connecting.

It is nice that most folks have a good experience. I have Ooma for about two years. I got lucky and my first hardware failure was in less than a year. Overall the service has been unreliable. The latest was I could only make 1 800 and 1 866 calls. No local or long distance. It took them weeks to fix it. The customer service response time ranges between 48 - 72 hours - than they ask you the same questions over and over.
If you don't have a cell phone - this isn't for you. You can't trust it.

@chvrles So weird, because unless my internet is out...I have never yet had a problem...not in the almost 2 years of owning it. To each their own...but it was the smartest decision ever to rid myself of a home phone bill...that said, I agree that it should not be your only phone!
