  • Great to read all the nice comments. ON THE DAY will have its theatrical premiere in 51 theatres across Canada on Feb. 9, 2011 with an encore screening on Feb. 13, 2011. Check out the Cineplex and Empire Theatres website, my web site and Facebook for updated info.

    Thanks,

    John

  • the grey old Lady of Raasay I Think

  • The band notes call it The Grey Old Wife of Raasay and P/M Roddy MacLeod did the arrangement. Another arrangement which sounds way different from the original tune is their slow air, Leaving Friday Harbor. ~ John McD.

  • So what happened to Spirit of Scotland THIS year (2009)? They weren't even listed among bands attempting to qualify, and I haven't read a single word about their status for '09. SoS web site says nothing; Roddy MacLeod's site says nothing; no bloggers have written anything. I gather from the fact that they've not been listed among entered Grade 1 bands that are trying to qualify, that they're not even on that list, that they did not even enter the World's contest this year. What happened??

  • It was an experiment that may never happen again. Pulling everyone together was an tremendous task and the band members each had to pay their own airfare, meals and accommodations. So many pipers are top soloists and I think really needed to get back to competing as such. But who knows, there has been talk, and we'll have to see what happens. At least the band will live on in my documentary, which is why I HAD to make it.

  • I hope to premier the film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival this June and then screen it at Piping Live in Glasgow during the week leading up to the Worlds in August. Maybe DVDs will come out after that. Please show your support by becoming a member of the ON THE DAY group on Facebook. And tell your friends. Thanks. -- John

  • I will never be a piper like pipers who learned at 10 YOld BUT i will try to do my best To be A Piper !! & this Movie Give me Chills like no other & i really hope to going to Glasgow this August !!

  • Accompanied the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band to the Worlds in 2003. Had a great time with John Elliott and all the rest. Enjoying a pint and listening to the bands in the quad at Strathclyde University was heaven. Taking my mum (and lots of kleenex) to see the movie on Sunday.

  • Nice to see all these Canadians!!! Inspires me to pick up the chanter and pipes again!

  • a pretty challenge, but with such musicians, I believe it possible, not only a question of technic, but complicity and firendship, and after all, if they had not tried that would have been a pity, just for the fun and music, the world's are not a trial but a challenge for everybody and for the whole bands, and even if that need a lot of practicing, the passion leads you to your best and if you are the bests OK ! but however, the best is to participate

Cheers lads ! I'm proud to be a piper

  • John,

Your documentary was excellent. I bought a copy whilst at Winter Storm in Kansas City this past January. I've watched it about 10 times. My daughters even like watching it!
