This is weird! I just posted a question on the Illustrator forum for the same reason, and made a video too! check it out on my page. The lack of this basic functionality kills me...
Axe murderer got it wrong, until you've got used to how easy it was to do basic stuff in FH you won't know how sorry AI is in this regard...
InDesign uses Command-Left Click to run through objects like this, but in Illustrator, the Command key's always been reserved to swap between Selection and Direct Selection tools. That's a handy feature, even if it comes at the expense of another feature. Can't have it all, and if you could, you'd want more. heh!
