A better way for 47 x 47:
Round up and down by 3 for 50 x 44. Then do the calculation, which is (44 x 5) x 10 = 220 x 10 = 2200, or 50 x 4 x 11 = 220 x 11 = 2200, and add 3 x 3 = 9 for the total of 2209.
