Magic the gathering has issued many pre-constructed decks in the past. The difference between them and the new event decks are that the event decks have more competitive builds including more rares and uncommons that are designed to allow a player to come to a FNM or event and play.

In part 1 of this review I talk about what cards are included in the deck, and also relate my experiences in a small card shop Monday Night Standard tournament where I won 3-0 matchs winning 6 games 1 lose. They had an extended round to break a 7 person tie for 2nd place, I ended the night winning the tourney 3-1 for matches 7-3 for games. With an Event Deck!!!
I was completely surprised and it was quite an ego-boosting experience as I'm a casual player, but still got to show that I had some skillz. It wasn't entirely luck either as I played against a couple well known tourney builds; Caw-Blade and a Mono-Red Goblin Rush. I talk a bit about my experience during the tournament.
Listed here are links to deck lists similar to the ones I played against during the tournament. Follow the links if you need to see the cards.

All in all I was pretty impressed that I could compete, I bought the deck just because I wanted the stoneforge mystics. It was interesting enough that I decided to go back and try out the deck again... wondering if the wins had been a fluke. Which is part 2 of the review.
Red-Black Vampires

I saw this deck at my local card and gaming store the other day. Given that it's a bit old, would it be worth a buy for standard? Or no? I kinda want it after watching this.

@QuietCreed mmm, hard call, most of the cards are stilll legal, you'd have to fill in the spost for kor duelist, kor firewalker and journey to nowhere, they have rotated out. The big reason not to get the deck is that stoneforge mystic is not only rotated out, but banded from the modern format. So it's essentially a dead card!
I'd probably not buy it for standard, because without Journey it doesn't have the creature removal to compete with most current decks.
Great deck though.

the difference is card pool. Standard only incorporates about a year and a half of cards. Typically every fall, in october, Magic produces a large set and two companion expansions sets called a block. When they print the first new set of the block the older block from 2 years previous plus the following summer core set rotates out... and is no longer legal to play in Standard. Casual doesn't have any restrictions, and you'll typically see many of the older 10,000 uniquely printed cards.
