This is what happens when your gig contract stipulates that you will paid by the number of notes you play.

@zenvoodoodoc lbh its just fast rock, its bloody awesome, and far musically above most rock/pop jazz, but it isnt making a major contribution to the art of the human race as a whole

Wanktacular

This is great. I've heard a lot of JM's solo stuff, but was not overly-familiar with this. Reminds me of FREE JAZZ (Ornette Coleman).
And I am not sure if this is necessarily discordant but rather "out of the box" pertaining to what we're used to. This is why I LOVE bands like Primus and Meshuggah.

Artists/ensembles like this exist to expand the vocabulary of the art form. While the casual listener might find this music difficult to listen to, disquieting, frightening or even downright obnoxious, that is quite okay. Without expansion of boudaries art cannot evolve. This music is approximately forty years old and still sounds experimental and unorthodox by contemporary standards. One can conclude that it seemed quite bizarre in the grand scheme of things at the time of its release.

This is only 7 years after Pink Floyd's first album. Even David Bowie who had listened to Pink Floyd from the start never made as creative music as Mahavishnu Orchestra. I don't know really, this is just my first thought since this is the first time I've ever heard them.

Click on the link below, This is an Original Tune & Groove.
I recently discovered a new band, and it made me think about this song.
Listen to the first minute of each song and then tell me If you also think it is a little bit too similar ...
Type "Tetragon Dragon Song" and listen to it.

@MrSaccageur : it is similar because it's a cover of Mclaughlins Dragon song from the 1970 Album 'Devotion', elements of which he took and added some of 'One word' from Tony Williams lifetime to make Mahavishnu's 'One Word'. Good find though, I'd never heard of this before.
