This worked for me. Its from stack flow.
You can use a FilesMatch, eg.
<FilesMatch "\.(js|css)$"> ExpiresActive on ExpiresDefault "access plus 1 month"
</FilesMatch>
Or for some specific files:
<FilesMatch "^(example.js|sample.css)$"> ExpiresActive on ExpiresDefault "access plus 1 month"
</FilesMatch>

I agree with timwright12 a tutorial would most defiantly help. I've been trying to figure this out for the last four days. I am running cpanel and i have the mods turned on but it does not seem to be working. I'm editing the htaccess file and I've looked over several text tutorials but no one has a complete and understandable run through. I tell you that might be the first thing I do when i get this figured out.
