  • @ottvalley Funny enough; at the time we thought U2, Simple Minds, Big Country, and a few others all sounded the same. Mind you, were were young and arrogant and just starting out in the music industry ourselves. It was probably criticism born of jealousy and sneaking suspicion we'd never be that good. :-D

  • My roommate and I used to play this song everytime we went out dancing back in the 80's at ASU!

  • Boy is a great LP cranked up, October is great. The early stuff was magic. What are they doing now? After a long struggle and world domination for over 25 years U2 have become unlistenable!! Seems there's No Music On The Horizon, that we haven't heard! Threading water and churning out mediocre tunes. Music-by-numbers production with no dynamics! Everytime a new LP come out they say "This is our best one"! Afraid Not!

  • I remember seeing this in 1981, when I was about 6. I thought I was looking at Gods, and now I realize Bono was only about 21 at the time. Can you imagine having that kind of swagger at only 21? He pulled it off expertly. Too bad just about all the young artists today can't.

  • Used to love MT USA, Could you copy a tape of the show for me?

  • This is the first video I remember seeing on MTV.

  • because of this video, i always had an idyllic impression of ireland in my youth.

i always think of old songs we all loved: "hmm, if this were released today, how would it be received? would anyone hear it?", etc.

without a doubt, "gloria" would be really something. maybe not a smash hit, but noteworthy? hell yea. disturbing thing is bono would be having to share a stage with lady gaga at the M(oronic)TV music awards or something.

  • U2 were better than most of today's artist, even back then! :L)

  • Grand Canal Dock hasn't changed a bit!

  • Oh these good old days
