Over the past century, the world has changed significantly. The environment has been substantially altered by people and change in our practices is needed. Natural disasters, wars and the trend towards sustainability have created a demand for new solutions.
Our idea aims to address this issue by employing textile knowledge and technology. In doing so we have created Grow Green, a spacer fabric, partly made of biodegradable fibers and equipped with nutrients to provide the necessary ground for plant roots to grow. It will be able to store the liquid inside, due to a water repellent coating on the backside and the capability of fibers to hold water for a limited time. Seeds will be applied accordingly to personal preferences.
Grow Green will bring new opportunities for private households, as well as proposing a solution for other current problems. It can be a source of food, independent from the ground, the environment and its placement. It is low cost, light weight, easy to apply and distribute. With Grow Green we want to propose a new approach to utilize textiles and grow a greener future.
