Collection of entertaining scenes from the obscure 1988 movie DARK BEFORE DAWN, a film I dubbed the world's first "farmsploitation" flick. Part conspiracy thriller. Part murder mystery. Part melodrama. Part industrial educational film. An odd movie to say the least.
It's a conspiracy thriller about the biggest agricultural corporation in America engaging in illegal practices in their quest to corner the global grain market and drive the price of a loaf of break up to $6 a loaf. The big city TV reporter girlfriend arrives in the farming community of Milo, Kansas to uncover the truth her investigative journalist boyfriend was murdered over. Adding a touch of weirdness is the inclusion of a cult of pagan-worshipping farmers led by actor Billy Drago planning an uprising against the government, farming corporations, bankers foreclosing on farmlands, and the media that enables all three. An odd movie to say the least.
