  • Still pretty sweet no matter the runway length used.......

I wish I had video of one taking off a few years before this one. He took off with full burner and climb through some thin overcast clouds at about 6-7 thousand, right before he hit the clouds he rolled it and cut a hole through them.... that was cool.

  • He was NOT using max burners on this takeoff. This jet, despite it's massive weight, doesn't take up much space at all to get off the ground. Those powerful engines combined with those huge wings will get this cat in the air quick, though he obviously wasn't using them to their full potential. It does NOT need to use 10,000 ft. to get airborne. Besides, an F-4 is a really heavy jet too, but it lacks wing area, which would account for the long takeoff distance.

  • @inbound1000 The 10-14 thousand foot runways aren't for fighters, F-14 or otherwise...

  • @bsullivan161 That is a stupid reason, the F-14 is larger than the F/A-18,and you don't know how heavy the aircraft was in this video

  • That seemed like it took forever to get off the ground! Obviously that's why the f18's are so much better!

  • @flysupertomcat1 my friend i was talking about fighter jets... the c5 galaxy has about the same amount of wing area as a 747...my friend flew f4s in isreal...he said it used about the whole runway to get up....

  • @inbound1000 ummm they can get airborne in half the runway that an airliner needs. Ever heard of a C-5 galaxy? Tactical jets aren't the only military aircraft.

  • @reluctable they use more runway then a airliner on takeoff..thats why most military runways are 10 to 14 thousand feet..

  • Seems unnaturally slow without a catapult dragging it along.
