I was also taught not to take shelter under or near a tree. The odds are very low that one will be struck by lightening (1/700,000 according to the National Weather Service). This, however, is not a fools odds, so I intend to follow the gentleman's advice in this video to the letter.

Well, I've enver been hit, but it's come pretty close! Doc is right- that's life in Florida!
They start having news specials about lightning, as soon as rainy season starts every year.
