Broken Embraces (Spanish: Los abrazos rotos) is a 2009 Spanish film by Pedro Almodóvar set in the 1990s and present day. The film centers on a four-way tale of dangerous love, and was shot in the style of a hard-boiled 1950s American film noir. Its soundtrack features acclaimed artists such as Cat Power, Uffie, Vitamin C, etc.

Harry Caine, a blind writer, reaches this moment in time when he has to heal his wounds from 14 years back. He was then still known by his real name, Mateo Blanco, and directing his last movie.

  • That is not the original song at the end.

  • @todhenmill Lena (cruz) was Ernesto's (old guy) secretary but her family was poor and couldn't afford the surgery her dad needed (he had cancer) so she stayed with him because he helped her and her family out so much. She becomes an actress after 2 years of being with him and falls in love with the director of the movie they shoot and Ernesto beats her (pushes her down sairs, hits her, throws her out on the street, and sends people out to kill her) so she runs away with the man she loves.

  • Where'd that terrible song at the end come from?

  • @todhenmill An absolutely stupid comment like this is really pissing me off. Do you even see the movie to check what you are talking about? You don't even know what was really going on in the movie, then how the hell can you speak about "films" like some expert. Go home and fool your mom, don't go in here and publicly embarrass yourself!

  • if cruz had a brain, she would have addressed this issue before signing onto the film:

why would a woman with two professions, office worker and actress, need to be a whore?

these sort of plots were done in the sensationalist, male dominated films of the 70s, and no one complained, but i certainly hope this isn't a trend for them to try getting away with these roles for women now.

this the reason i stopped being curious about spanish films. very uncomfortable viewing.

Saludos ......
