AWESOME MUSIC!!!

@SwingMan1937 Its hard to believe, listening to these sides, that they were panned by critics on release- no one seemed to understand the extended format idea, and even John Hammond said it was "Gutless"!. Ellington stopped writing for a year after his Mother died, virtually gave up the band, and this work was his first, and probably his most heartfelt of all, and to have his elegy rubbished like that must have been a devastating blow. Any lesser person would have just given up. Lucky for us,eh?

Thank you so much for sharing! Love this song!!

I love these pre-bop avant garde treasures - this is as out there as Fletch & Bean's "Queer Notions" - Duke has a lot of these beauties though
-
I wish! I haven't had much luck finding duplicates of pre-war Duke, other than Take the A Train & The Mooche. I'll keep you in mind if I *do* find a duplicate of Harlem Air Shaft, though!

Thanks, guy - these babies survived 2 apartment break-ins and various moves ove the last 24 years.
I've been REAL lucky in that regard. ;)

You bet, guy. :)
Say, you wouldn't happen to have an extra 78 of Duke's "Harlem Air Shaft" lying around, would you?

"Reminiscing In Tempo" was an elegy to Ellington's mother, who died in 1935.
