"Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford's Forgotten Jungle City"

We speak with NYU professor Greg Grandin about his new book, Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Fords Forgotten Jungle City. The book tells the story of Henry Ford, the richest man in the world in the 1920s, and his attempt to build a rubber plantation and a miniature Midwest factory town deep in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon.

  • A jungle settlement is an extremely difficult process. A Michigan farmer will never make it because he wouldn't understand how difficult and complex it can be.

  • It was an honour and pleasure being with Greg during his visit to Fordland. I am happy I`he contributed to such great book.

  • did anyone catch the word "PLANTATION" doesn't that make Ford and Firestone supporters of sweat shop wages and slave labor?!?!?!

  • Government protectionism creates monopolies and weak industries

That is why TWA & American motor companies died off like the Dodo Bird!
