Multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer and instrument designer Mark Stewart performing on his electric "Ubiongi. Mark was the very first performer on stage at the New York Guitar Festival's first Guitar Marathon at the 92nd Street Y's Kaufman Auditorium, January 20, 2002. Since 1998 he has recorded, toured & performed with Paul Simon. A founding member of the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Mark is also a member of Steve Reich and Musicians, The Fred Frith Guitar Quartet, Arnold Dreyblatt's Orchestra of Excited Strings, Zeena Parkins' Gangster Band and the manic duo Polygraph Lounge with keyboard & theremin wizard Rob Schwimmer. He has also worked with Anthony Braxton, Bob Dylan, Cecil Taylor, Meredith Monk, Phillip Glass, Bruce Springsteen, Edie Brickell, Don Byron, Paul McCartney & Marc Ribot.

  • This is actually very interesting and unique, I really enjoyed it. I don't want to sound rude or anything, but those of you who think it's just noise are ignorant. It may not necessarily be enjoyable to most people, but it's still music.

    But honestly, I've never seen anyone do this before, it was very unique. Very interesting.

  • Mark was one of my cello professors at SUNY Stony Brook a while back. He is incredibly talented and I'm so happy to see him making waves in the music community! He is truly an entrepeneur of music!
