@PainSurgeon first of all without faster than light travel most of their discoveries are somewhat unimportant. Second, after you die, and someday you will die, the spots on other planets won't mean a flying toss but whether there is a god or an afterlife will. The sad thing is the lack of philosophizer and training not astronomers.

Don't get me wrong I love this stuff but I don't think its the most important thing out there.

Did he just say that there's only about 10000 professional astronomers in the world? Damn... all that wasted potential in humanity. Why can't we educate everyone in the knowledge of the universe at a young age, instead of religious nonproven stories? Lot less crazy people, lot more thinking people after a generation or two.
