This is the laparoscopic view of a liver biopsy performed on a pig using a new hemostatic liver biopsy device. The bleeding is instantaneously stopped. Experiments showed that this device reduced the bleeding time to seconds and 60% of the hemostatic biopsies showed no bleeding. This would stop the pain and complications resulting from the bleeding when current devices are used.

  • No, it is the coagulant material that stops the bleeding. Without it the biopsy hole would bleed that could prove fatal or require additional surgery and costly complications.
