Bit my tongue in half during this seizure...

I worked in Crime Prevention for 17 years until I got kicked in the back of the neck by a suspect during an interrogation and started having some pretty nasty seizures. I lost 4 jobs in just a few years and lost my gun license and now I cant drive so my catching Bad Guys career is over... While I was trying to find the right medication to control the seizures, I had a guy staying with us video taping as many seizures as he could. It was a great opportunity for my doctor who could study them and use them for training etc... Feel free to share them, or use them for training.

@Spencerianism: My partner turned his back and the suspect grabbed my shirt and pulled (kind of threw me across the room) and onto the floor, but I was in his way, so he kicked me in the back of the neck and then tried to make his escape.

My mother suffers from grand mals and im only 13 shes a single mom and with my lil bro its a lot of stress on her but she pulls through all the time. Two years ago she had a really bad one alone in my house if my aunt didnt have a feeling to check on he i dont even want to think what could of happend. It was so bad it knocked back into the 80's. She went into a come for about 7 days. when my aunt called me to tell me she was awake my mother flipped out asking what my aunt was talking into.

Brother, I have epilepsy too. And I never saw anybody else having a fit before. A fit like I have them. And now I did.

And I'm crying so hard...

The seizures were recorded so my Doctor (Fisher@ Stanford) can study them and use them for training; and I'm sharing them so parents can recognize those behaviors in their children and do something about it sooner than later. Considering the positive response I've had from almost everyone on facebook other than just a few, i'm doing the right thing. You've all been amazing and thank you. If you dont have people that care about you the way my friends here care about me, I hope you find some.

It's not easy living with Epilepsy, or the people who have to witness us having seizures.But have to live with the physical and mental effects of them after coming round.

People who don't go through it dont understand just how tough it is.I have broken my spine 3 times and my neck.As a result from having seizures and the side effect from the Carbamazepine,I have Osteoporosis. It's scary having to live with both.

You don't know how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have. ♥

@LordIsGood25 , If your mother could reach her hand into your mouth while having a seizure, then you were not having a seizure. Maybe it was after the seizure which in that case, she could have just rolled you on your side and it would have opened your airway. The only way you can swallow your tongue is if you bite off part of it and swallow that part. Your tongue is a huge organ with a TON of muscle that goes further than you can see. It wouldn't even fit down your throat.

@TheOsteward , the only thing you can do for someone having a seizure that is not lasting more than 5 minutes is to get them on their side to reduce the risk of aspiration. In the hospital environment, Ativan can be ordered. If the seizure lasts more than 5 minutes it's status epilepticus and requires immediate medical attention.

@ThatChristinChickk, I'm a nursing student who is studying seizures right now, that's how I found this video. The worst thing you can do to someone having a seizure is to put something in their mouth. I know that in the past they said to put a belt between the teeth to protect them, but through evidence based practice it is now said to not try and attempt to put ANYTHING in their mouths.

@ThatChristinChickk Buddy, you absolutly can not swallow your tongue. Ive been havin seizures for awhile now. Look it up.

@CelloMusic4ever you can to my toungue was at the bottom of my throat my mom had to reach in my throat and put it to the side so I would start breathing again.

i had a grandmal seizure in the second grade and almost died my dad had to tell my mom I was dead. But im alive today and I am 27 miracles do happen!
