This is how our home looked on May 17, the day before I left Hawaii. I left Hawaii, and our pets, and our home, because our US Army sponsored household had been abandoned 4 weeks earlier by my active duty spouse, a Major in the Army. Because she left, she was legally allowed to leave me the mess and responsibilities while keeping her $3100 housing allowance, $800 COLA, and other pay that amounted to $10,600/month, after taxes. The Army requires only 1333 to pay for the abandoned household.

At the advice of my spouse's command with the 325th Brigade at Schofield Barracks, I left Hawaii with the idea that my spouse would return home, service our mortgage, care for the pets, and oversee the packing of my household goods. I returned on June 17 to find that the bills were unpaid, the dogs were stolen, the house had become a pet kennel where the dogs and cats were neglected for 10 days. My neighbors were horrified, and they all talked about how the pets were desperately barking 24/7.

My spouse's Chain of Command told me that I must have misunderstood them.
