I've done alot of research regarding Tainos wearing head dresses. But since you know better than I do so be it. Everyone has their opinions about Tainos anyway thank you for your response.

Just found out we are Taino and Spaniard. My family comes from Utuado and Santurce, PR. We are 4 generations from being slaves but not Black slaves. My great grandfather wasTaino or what the gov. called Mullato and was a slave. The US gov has tried to "get rid" of Tainos by not counting them in the census and teaching us lies about Tainos being killed off in the 16th century.

Who ever says the Taino did not wear feathers and head dresses has not read the reports of the Spanish conquistadors or seen the engravings sent to Spain. Even the Lokono today who are the closest cultural ralatives to the Taino recognise these Taino groups.

Your response is both unacademic and nonsensical, if all your knowledge is based on what you have physically witnessed then there is no way for you to know what to perform, how or why. Or were YOU there?.

The very few items of clothing worn by the tainos have been documented thoroughly, much more so than their musical traditions and rhythms, which are unknown. Petroglyphs are religious in nature, and not even they depict this kind of headdress, i have seen MANY, but would love to be proved wrong

Perdon amigo, but tainos did not wear headdresses of this kind, they liked to display their flattened foreheads as it was considered a sign of beauty. There are opinions and there are facts, if I as a dominican anthropology student at the national university have never seen a single contemporary illustration that depicts headdresses of this kind, then chances are they do not exist or were very seldom seen. Also, you are missing the güiro for it to be taino.

@SpruceSap The same thing happend to me, for the first time fui a jayuya! Sat on the corner next to the bathroom, and started to look at the pics and stuff! IT WAS AMAZING! lol!

There have been allot of Arawak settlements, not just in the Caribbean, but also in North and South America. It is therefor not strange that certain Taino settlements had taken up new customs. The variety in the different Arawak cultures is sometimes quite big.
