It was a dream. It had to have been. That was the only solution Evan could come up with. He was dreaming, dreaming that he had left his bedroom in the middle of the night, in the middle of a storm, and stood motionless, terrified infront of a sobbing girl.
But it seemed so real. So clear, so sharp. It couldn't have been a dream. He could feel the cold touch of the glass on his fingertips. He could see the tears streaming down the girls cheeks. He could smell the burning of wood in the apartment lobby.
"Are you okay?" He yelled through the thick glass that sheltered his apartment. He placed his had on the door, about to pull it open, then stopped.
The girls thick, brown hair was stuck to the sides of her face, she breathed heavily, hunched over as if someone had stabbed her in the stomach. She yelled, greatly. So loud.
Evan removed his hand from the handle, taking a step back. The girl threw loud hard punches at the glass, screaming at the top of her lungs. Until she finally gave up, and let herself fall to the floor. He opened the door, immediately being soaked with water. "Are you okay?" He took off his jacket, wrapping it around her. She sprung up with force, backing away as if he were some kind of animal that was about to harm her.
He put his hands up, as if he were trying to not scare away a wide eyed deer. "It's alright." He shook the water from his hair,
Her eyes were big, bright green, her skin milky, translucent almost. She held her body tight, wearing a dress that seemed to summery for winter. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you."
The girl stared deeper into his eyes, her green seemed to overrule her whole face, the only thing Evan could look at. Suddenly, she backed away from him, her back pressed against the wall.
"Evan!" Cecilia, his sister called from the door. "What are you doing out here so late!"
"I.. I don't know." He addmitted, turning towards the door. "But there was this girl, I think shes hurt or something." He turned his attention back over to the girl, she was gone.
"What girl?" Cecilia asked, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
"There was a girl here just a minute ago!" He turned back to Cecilia, "I'm not lying!" He nearly laughed. "She was just here, screaming."
