Excellent reminder! I appreciate how balanced you two's perspective is. The most important thing is keeping righteous company who are compatible with our way of life and strengthen our imaan. I say it that way because even my muslim friends growing up were not good company because of what they did. So you two have addressed this very skillfully in my opinion. What matters is righteous God-fearing company with our fellow muslim brothers and sisters.

Its not about not being with friends because they are not Muslim, but refraining from people who do acts that are haraam. It also follows that logic woukould tell you to be around Muslimahs as they bring you closer to Allah.
