Saul is one of the few people in the media i can ever define as being "real" because he simply refuses to dumb down for the sake of mediocraty, even though that seems to be the standard for defining "good" but i'm glad he refuses, because "good" as a description of his work simply does not cut the mustard.

I don't think this is what Saul Williams means by "reject mediocrity". I think it means that we shouldn't settle for any less than our passions and spirit and the person we want to be. Being anyone except for the full you is "mediocre". I don't think it has anything to do with dumbing down. I don't think Saul Williams would ever endorse criticising people who don't understand him as long as they're chasing their dreams.
