@boogetman65 Thank you my friend. but no, that wasn't H.S. Li's another pen name. I am in authority in saying this because my late mother was the copyrights holder of this beautiful song for music only. The lyrics' rights I can only suppose is holded by EMI publishing now. Besides, H.S. Li couldn't have written such beautiful Chinese lyrics because he himself couldn't speak Mandarin so there was no way he could compose such lyrics.
I could not believe you discredited your late uncle's work which for writing the lyrics. 高剑声, is 李厚襄's another among the names he used since begin of reasing the song.
Let me provide everyone a link, a reasearch about 岷江夜曲 by a group of enthusiastics. Perhaps, a judgement still need to be made based by individual :
@boogetman65 My Friend: Coconut grove or not is not the point as the song's lyrics wasn't written by Li himself.
The lyrics writer took the liberity in composing which was allowed. EMI's then in-charge in Shanghai Ms Wang took the liberity again in translated the song's title into something completely different from Li and lyrics writer which was regrettable. But now all those people involved with this beautiful song were gone including the singer Wu Ying Yin.
There is no coconut grove in MinJiang as everyone knew. This is a major clue of the song. Song writer 李厚襄 has written two songs after the performing trip in 1947. The other song sung by 云云, who is just passed away month ago, has mentioned the word Philippines. There is also a 1947 picture on the internet before get on the flight. And, also a 1948 record cover in Mandarin and English title. Do you read chinese? If so, I can point you the link.
@boogetman65 My friend, you must be joking. I don't think H.S. Li's Minjiang was River of Manila, no.Though he had been to the Philippines once during his whole life.
My lated uncle Li Hau Shan was the composer of this song, but he told me he had never been to Sichuan, let along knowing Minjiang. It was his imagination only.
There is also a MinJiang in Fujian. There could be coconuts there.

此“岷江”非彼“岷江”。
这“岷江”是指马尼拉河,位于菲利宾。《岷江夜曲》就是《马尼拉河小夜曲》。
