This nice little promo piece for Ontario Place used to run late at night on CFTO. Sadly this copy is cut short by the CFTO early morning news. If anyone has the full version, please get in touch!

  • Yeah, they always said upfront it was pre-recorded

  • CFTO ran a bunch of neat fillers before the 6a news... among others, there were various National Film Board cartoons ("The Cat Came Back" and "The Hockey Sweater" come to mind) and a truckers film (Reimer Transport) from roughly the same era as this Ontario Place film. Does anybody on YT have this film?

  • Definitely 1990-91 vintage because of Beverly Thomson. I was on a media tour with her to Las Vegas in 1992, and she hadn't been with CFTO for very long at the time. Videotron's Jay Rubinstein grabbed her and put her in the trunk of the car, because, as he said "we need an anchor in the back for better traction".

  • Place hasn't changed much!

  • Where is the rest of that footage ? ... I have been looking for a copy of this forever. My baby sister was having her 6th birthday party at Ontario Place that day when the camera crew were shooting .. she's in a couple shots playing in the children's village at the end of this clip. She never saw this promo film and would get a kick out of seeing it. She just had her 44th birthday this June ... time moves quickly !

  • @streetcarjay

It's Lighthouse.. That's Skip Prokop on drums and Bob McBride on lead vocals.

The Forum concerts were free with admission to the EX. But Ontario Place was very easy to get into free back then. I remember just walking up a delivery/service entrance and no one giving us a second glance.

  • @davinci5152 Couldn't agree more! I preferred watching ball games at Exhibition Stadium, can't stand the Skydome. How exciting it used to be to have a ballpark in the middle of the Ex!

  • @RealBMac I saw thes on TV stations in The USA. Americans love to visit Canada.

  • Wasn't the band Crowbar?

  • See, kids? Like the CNE, Ontario Place didn't always suck! In fact, it used to be pretty great!

  • @Neville6000 It's sad to see what the CNE (The EX) has been reduced too.

I went a couple of years ago and left in disgust after less than an hour.

It's a ghost of what it once was.. it was really pathetic. I agree, it should be put out of it's misery. It's completely lost it's identity.

They should tear down what's left of it and build a proper outdoor baseball stadium AND a 25,000 seat outdoor football stadium.

The skydome is a mausoleum. The worst ever place to see any sports event.

  • ooooh i'm probably the only person in Ontario who has not yet been there, despite spending vast amounts of time in Toronto. i've just never taken the trip to the island.

  • I just remembered.. in the winter there was a a different video shown.. Something about skiing.. I think maybe Collingwood/Blue Mountain or something.. I never saw the end of that one either..

Ontario Place rocked in the early and Mid-70's. The free concerts at the Forum were legendary.
