  • omg! this looks soo painful, \i have a deviated septum and was supposed to get it 'fixed' but never went to go back to the dr about it because a) i was afraid of getting it done and b) it doesnt seem to be bothering me. should i be worried about this? like i said its not bothering me and if i do decide to get it done what are the benefits?

  • @Ducky456 Dear Ducky The reasons to repair a deviated nasal septum are because you have symptoms related to it. Such as nasal obstruction, recurrent sinus infections, chronic mouth breathing being attributed to your DNS. The operation is not painful, you're under anesthesia. After surgery, there is just stuffiness, usually similar to what you are experiencing now. Any pain is usually easily treated with pain medications. Discuss with your doctor. Regards, BTSMD

  • @HitmanHat Hi; Thanks for your comments. I use topical 4% cocaine in the OR, then Xylocaine 1% with 1:100,00 epi for injection. I use mostly zero degree 4mm sinus endoscope. To look around corners, 30,45 or 70 degree scopes.

  • @HanyunanodesuDC See a nose doctor for a proper evaluation. BTSMD

  • I had a septoplasty in 2007 for a severely deviated septum. The surgeon said he removed a lot of cartilage but my right nostril is still very blocked (the cartilage is bent right over), are there some cases that just cant be fixed properly?

  • First, u can't just push cartilage back. U either remove it or remove it and replace it. It doesn't push back. Sounds like you still have some part of the nasal septum still crooked internally which needs to be removed and either replaced as a free graft or just left out, Can't tell any more from your description. Good luck.

  • btw, those consults were during vacation in Korea. Supposedly, I'm currently breathing through one nostril. I decided to wait it out and stick to UCLA but don't want to have anything cut out because my DNS was due to an orbital blowout fracture/facial fracture left untreated for 2 years. Do you HAVE to cut out the bone and cartilate etc?
