Nice looking soup!! I'm learning with you,'mace' comes from same plant as 'nutmeg'; mace comes from from the red lacy covering on the seed kernel and nutmeg is the seed kernel. A totally different plant but similar concept; 'coriander' (seed) and 'cilantro' (leaves) are from same plant.

Mace is an under appreciated spice used in fall cooking. Sounds like the perfect spice for an autumn pumpkin soup.

@iluvhotblondes Mace is the outer membrane of a nutmeg and tastes very similar
-
no he didn't

Mace is the outter husk of nutmeg and is often used in seasoning squash and pumpkin dishes. I see no reason why he would use the less common word maize for corn flour.

I think what steve meant was maize not mace. maize is corn flour.

I made this from fresh pumpkins (baked them first then cut the inside out)and the neighbors wanted to try it.They just knocked on my door and said it is the best soup they have ever eaten in their life! They want more so they can freeze it for later. Bravo Steve!
