The Shadow a Film by Dorion Barill

The Shadow a Film by Dorion Barill, traces the splintered memories of a young man's descent into madness. Driven by dreams, delirium, and violent flashbacks, Nathan and his friends journey into the Appalachian wilderness, in search of a buried "treasure-box," with the hopes of solving the mystery of his girlfriend's sudden disappearance. The video is a mix of live action and animation, in a style akin to the silent era with a soundtrack mix of music, narration and gravely chatter over radio transmissions. It is a surreal tale of insanity and murder in the deep woods.
Part 1 of 6
I spent two years in high school working on this project. It was all filmed in southwestern Pennsylvania, around Pittsburgh. My friends went through a lot of trouble to help me - we faced everything from bears to haunted insane asylums - and in the end, we collected over 30 hours of raw footage.
The story begins as Nathan (played by Elliot Swauger) leads his friends, Tommy (that's me), and John (Durrell Ward), into the forest. He's searching for a memory - a terrible event which, for some reason, he cannot recall. Mike Merriman narrates, and Brendan, my brother, plays the role of young Nathan.
To shoot some of these early scenes, we visited an abandoned train station in East High Acres, Westmoreland County. Unfortunately much of that area is being developed. I don't know what the developers plan to do with the 19th century ruins that sit on about an acre of land, along with an abandoned train tunnel that remains completely hidden, and runs right under suburbia.
