(Jan 7, 2010 Update - Copy with better audio quality here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iV1qmyiiQZA - i've learned that the ImToo encoder's "Normal" Audio setting is not full audio resolution, its downsampled, so i reencoded and while the image is almost identical the sound is much less muffled)

This is the first test of my new Panasonic DMC-ZS3 (DMC-TZ7) shooting HD Video using the AVCHD-Lite codec. The group is Lifehouse performing their new single "Halfway Gone". (The video recording starts with the last part of their song "Hanging By A Moment".) I was standing off to the side of 'stage right' so i had to hold the camera above my head. After I put my arms down in order to photograph the rest of the band i realized that i had my left index finger directly over the stereo mic holes (bad design or operator error, you make the call) so the audio is muffled and then a bit mucked up. I learned something before I use the camera for something important (good!) but you can't use this video to judge audio quality (bad). I converted this video using ImToo Video Converter for Mac and the AppleTV 1280x720 setting.

  • this is the shit! awesome quality.

  • glad you liked it... the linked video has much better quality audio (still learning at this end!)

  • Wow! The quality is excellent! Most personal vidoes are blurry and have terrible sound.

And for clarification: The long-haired guitarist is Ben; now an official member of the band after years of touring with them. And the first song you hear is Hanging by a Moment. The last song is Halfway Gone.

Where was this recorded, out of curiosity?

  • thanks for the nice comments... this was recorded at Apple in the cafeteria back in december, just before the holidays... it was a 'secret/surprise' concert. happened to have my new camera and wanted to test its video recording ability... i didn't know this was the first live performance of Halfway Gone...

btw, there's a replacement copy with better audio - check the response video (i'm still learning and this version has good video but sub-par audio, the replacement audio is better)

  • Thanks for the video! What I find odd is that no one is dancing. That's such a great song that if I'd been there, I'd been dancing and singing like those in the official Halfway Gone video.

  • there were folks dancing off to the sides where there was a bit more room... its hard to see because of the lighting, but it was -packed- & everyone had food & drink in their hands, along with many iPhones, so there wasn't a lot of room in the middle. also, we didn't know who the band was going to be (secret guests) so not everyone knew who they were & were just digging on the tunes. also this happened on a weekday afternoon at a place of business, so folks were less likely to let loose...
