Helicopters performing water drops on a wildfire in Montana. A Sikorsky S-61 and a Bell 212 alternate drops with real radio communications between aircraft and firefighters. Takes place during burnout operations to protect a private inholding within the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. The smoke column rises thousands of feet above the burning mountainside. Burning through the months of August and September 2006 the Passage Falls Fire burned almost 7000 acres.

  • Hey great shot of the S-61! I worked with them this last summer but that looks like some intense fire!
