  • This is one of my favourite songs ever. When the album first came out, I was the only one in my circle of friends who liked it. The others thought it "Not jolly enough". Great art can be thought provoking and evocative like this track, as well as educational and entertaining. I'm so glad that Kinks fans around the world now have a more mature attitude to this kind of music than my contemporaries did. Ray Davies expertly evokes all types of human emotions, not just playing superficial froth

  • this is such a sad song. it was beautifully written. another Kinks masterpiece - one of so so so many.

  • @Galericulus - Agreed. This album was VERY underappreciated. I loved it from the moment I first heard it. It has stood the test of time. This song is a killer anti-war song.

  • if you wanna make war after hearing this song you are monster

  • Great band, great video. This should be required viewing for every young American man and woman.

This is what the criminal Bush / Cheney Administration brought to us nearly ten years ago now, and what the ineffectual Obama Administration has utterly failed to correct.

  • Tragic as the song is, it's even more shattering to think that such was rock music once. Pre-emptive addendum: I know there are some very good bands today and I am a fan of a few too. My point is still made.

  • @wonderfulvoices

what happened to you in your youth? Something is off.

  • what movie is this from?

  • its 2011 and still the lies go on.

    God bless you RD

  • Absolutely love it, can't think of a bad kinks song tbh but this is one of the few sad songs that I'll never mind being put on even when in a partying mood!

  • Men die in coal mines, in war all over the world, on the sea, everywhere; and what do men also do then when war is over, yes they put up a sculpture or memorial of a WOMAN!!!

Soldiers are NOT SOLDIERS, the are MALEDIERS, men who dies for "mothers"!!!

Men die 10 years earlier than women because they spend all their lived to worry about and to supply women!!!

    There is no other reason!!!

But, make no mistake here; I am not a women hater; my very best friend is a WOMAN, one of those intelligent

  • Veteran's Day, Nov 11, 1969 school assignment at LPS was to air a 15 min. school radio production highlighting the significance of the event. Davies' song inspired classmates' ears and eyes to open that day, the first time to question war and realize the futility and human cost of the ongoing debacle in "Nam." Used the Beatles "Revolution" and Buffy Ste Marie's "Universal Soldier" for rest of my quarter hour segment. Of course, the right wing administration wasn't impressed, but the kids were.
