On the way to Pioche, NV we saw this abandoned mine from the highway. Turned out to be the Volcano Mine. The site featured an old engine room and hoisting house as well as a headframe over a vertical shaft. Numerous adits are on-site, and we explored one that had a collapsed entrance. The mine tunnel we explored turned out to be very extensive.

  • why was t called the volcano mine ?

  • @goldmining12345 I'm not sure why it is called the Volcano Mine. Cool name, though!

  • Have you been up near Elko NV? I bet there are tons of abandoned mines there. saw some gold miners in town.

  • @davidsquall351 Haven't gotten that far north yet in Nevada. Thanks for the heads up, though!

  • rock test....lol

    Looks like a beautiful area

  • @davidsquall351 Yeah, that part of Nevada is higher in elevation than the southern area, so they get a lot more rainfall and snowfall. Keeps things greener, as you can see. It was a nice change of scenery from the deserts in southern California and southern Nevada.
