NEW BERLIN, Wis. -- Mark Musselman and Mike Primus speak during the New Berlin School Board's public comment portion of its meeting Monday, Aug. 29, 2011.
In a setting that looked more like a professional wrestling match, both sides of the new collective bargaining law were at the New Berlin School Board meeting to protest and support policies in a new employee handbook approved unanimously Monday.
Wisconsin Education Association Council, New Berlin Education Association members and other district staff were upset about reductions in sick days, early retirement benefits, and disability benefits in the handbook. Teachers are opposed to increases in working hours and not being able to grieve suspensions, written reprimands and negative performance evaluations.
Prior to enactment of Act 10, the average Milwaukee area teacher made over $105,000 per year in total compensation for NINE months of work in addition to the ability to retire at age 50 with a pension equal to the average of your 3 highest paid years. The primary dispute these teachers had at the New Berlin event was that their paid sick days were being reduced to 45!!! The reason they get booed is because they WON'T STOP WHINING!!! If they don't like it, they can find work elsewhere!

Both of these 2 speakers along with everyone in that boos teachers for talking is a coward. Teachers want to IMPROVE PUBLIC EDUCATION. Since when have they become the target for our FINANCIAL PROBLEMS. How many RICH teachers do you know. A teacher at the top of the pay scale with numerous years of experience barely makes $70,000. These people spend from year 5-18 with YOUR child everyday for over 8 hours.
