@sirmiltondarcy I agree. In my studies as a percussion undergrad, aside from a few pieces recommended by my studio professor, I've chosen all of the pieces I want to play for recitals because I wanted to play them. It makes it more enjoyable to learn and that much more satisfying when you play it well.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to study with Ney while at the University of Miami. The #1 thing he taught me was to have fun with my music.
All too often, I find music students focusing on perfection to the extent of losing the passion. Ney made mistakes all the time, but it didn't matter, cause he was jammin! Because he played for himself, for the sake of playing. If you're studying music, there is a reason why; never forget why!
