By this point, presenters Tess Daly and Shavaughn Ruakere had left the show. For this edition, actress and then Coronation Street star Nikki Sanderson was brought in to guest present with Des Clarke & Stephen Mulhurn. After this, SMTV would unleash different guest presenters every week as part of the SMTV Gold format. Plus, note how the opening titles had now been cut out. at the start of the show.

This opening features Des & Stephen acting as short-lived SMTV double act 'Backside' fighting against Westlife to see who is the best boy band in the studio that day.

  • What makes him not SMTV material? Much better than the likes of James Redmond and Tess Daly...now THEY were crazy appointments !! I think SMTV could have survived far longer with Stephen & Holly. More their kind of show than MOM ever was

  • I actually liked watching both SMTV & MoM, they were far more better to watch than The Saturday Show.

  • Not a single presenter was SMTV material after Ant & Dec left. It was their show and nobody else could possibly come close. The show made me cringe and I had to stop watching it, that was the problem.

  • do you have any of the later parts to this episode!?! i think i was actually the kid in dirty tricks... i think its this episode it looks familier. ^^ PLEEAASSAEEE tell me you do, i did tape it but someone had to go and lose the video.

  • do you have any of the later parts to this episode!?! i think i was actually the kid in dirty tricks... i think its this episode it looks familier. i was like 10 at the time though ^^ PLEEAASSAEEE tell me you do, i did tape it but someone had to go and lose the video.

  • Yeh of course TVBoy, they were both much better than whatever the BBC came up with ;) But I think it's a shame SMTV ended up the way it did...it took it to the end to find some half decent fresh presenters in Stephen and Des. I wonder what would have happened if it had to get recommissioned :( For me MOM was ok, and like you say better than TSS, but it wasn't half as adult as SMTV. It was much more for the kiddies which is why I didnt bother with it so much

  • I sometimes wonder why they got Stephen Mulhern in to host this, he really wasn't SMTV material. I'm guessing it's just because he already worked for CITV, so was available and it wasn't worth trying to find another presenter knowing the show had been axed. Even when he was presenting, he wasn't around for half the episodes anyway!

  • Attention fact fans:

This was the first SMTV Live to come from Riverside Studios in Hammersmith instead of The London Studios. Which might explain the delay between GMTV and CITV starting. Also no CITV logo. And they got rid of a bit of the set - anyone work out which bit? :P

  • The sad thing is this sketch is probably right.

  • this incarnation of SMTV is still better than TMi
