Hi Guys. This is my first tutorial, so comments and suggestions are welcome! This is an effect I've been playing around with and thought I would share. The basic idea is to change the quantization of groups of clips, record them and then apply a beat repeat effect over top of that. When you record your clips and launch them repeating in real time, Ableton will actually cut those clips up for you so you can manually adjust them / pull clips. If you dig this, check out my site http://www.digitallush.com or add me on facebook. :)

  • When you recorded in the arrange section, where did it record too? None of the tracks that I saw was record armed.

  • @deanc2000 Hey man. Just so you know, the tracks do not need to be record armed in order for it to record clip launching information. I didn't do any effects on the first recording, so after i hit the master record button, ableton recorded my clip launching performance. (Because it was in a group, it cut it up nicely for me). Hope this helps!

  • How did you copy sections and paste them? I cant figure it out is there keyboard shortcuts I been searching for awhile now in the help files and online and it seems noone can figure it out my self included I cant even make a selection by highlighting it goes from one point and leaves when I try to shift highlight

  • @divakaneva What do you mean by sections? If you mean tracks, you can highlight the track by clicking the title at the top, and hit command D for duplicate, or command c and v for copy and paste. To duplicate individual CLIPS you can click or highlight them by holding shift and clicking a range, then command c for copy and select a new empty track.. command v to paste. Hope this helps. A lot of these can all be found in your trusty ableton manual. :)

  • I figured it out awesome ty so much I am very new to this 3 days lol all helped is appreciated

  • @divakaneva Hey man I'm glad you figured it out! One thing that may be helpful to note is that in Live you can midi map to ANY key on your keyboard! Including CAPITAL keys. Up in the right hand corner there is a button labelled "KEY" (next to MIDI) - if you select KEY, you get the same overlay but can assign any key the same as assigning a midi controller. One thing to note is that Live supports mapping CAPITAL letters... so you actually have a lot more midi options just on your keyboard!

  • Is the song entitled "raucous cacophony"?

  • @divakaneva Hello you can highlight the section hit ctrl c to copy and ctrl v to paste. if you only want a small section hit ctrl E first. I hope this helps on the mac I think it would be command.

  • @digitallush OK Thanks yeah I'm a bit noob and its frustrating when I know what I want to do but because of not knowing the interface it slows me down there are so many small actions we can do in this program its easy to hit the wrong thing and screw it all up lmao

    Cheers!!

  • I have a question if we dont like the recording how do we delete it and start over? without affecting the group that we made in the beggining
