The recently released Jump Jet designed by Snelflight and manufactured by Alien Air is claimed to be "The World's Best Minature Jump Jet", and after owning one for a week, I would have to strongly agree! I would even extend that to being the best miniature indoor flying toy on the market! It is excellent value considering it can hover very stably with 3-axis rate damping and is very controllable with 4 channel controls, making it much more fun and agile than the 2 or 3 channel micro helis out there.

Although the aircraft body panels look cool, they're relatively flimsy and get damaged pretty easily. Nevertheless, I experimented with stripping off the body work and found that it flies even better! Without the body work, it has less drag allowing faster maneuvers, it's more compact for negotiating hallways and furniture, and with the 10g weight saving it has a faster climb rate and longer endurance!

A warning though, this modification will no doubt void your warranty and it also makes the throttle/climb a little touchier. Therefore I'd recommend you test fly it with the body on first to make sure everything works out of the box and to practice flying it. Nevertheless, apart from the body panels, this toy has proven to be very durable! The only spares you may eventually need are some more props (comes with 8), but you can avoid breaking them by making sure you cut the throttle right before any collisions.

The body support arms can be cut off with a stanley knife, and I left the front support arm on to help indicate which way is forward. However this could just as easily be achieved with painting the front or rear motor support arm, housing, and/or prop shroud. The prop shrouds can also be removed to save a further 5g, however the performance improvement is negligible compared to the comfort you get from having them on. Not to mention the props you're likely to save with them.

This toy best compliments watching commercial TV, because you can have it on charge while you watch your show, then fly it around the living room during the add breaks!

I hope you enjoy this video of my Jump Jet stripped naked table dancing (pun intended). As you can see, it is very agile, and can handle a good prang too! I highly recommend it!

  • Im thinking about buying this. After watching X-UFO videos, and then the X-BL video showing how fking fast the X-BL can fly (climbs 25ft / second) I must ask this:

    1) How far does it fly before modding the transmitter?

    2) When modding it all, and nothing but the body exist (as your video) How fast can this go? Im sure its a ton slower than the X-BL since that thing can go 300ft away, and sway over 30mph left and right...

  • 1) The IR only works indoors up to about 10 m max. The RF could fly 100 m or more, but you can't see it by then.

    2) I have an X-BL and it is a serious performer. The JJ isn't that agile and is more of a novelty because of it's small size.

I'd recommend buying a JJ or the Flying Saucer for training and for indoor flying. Then once you are proficient at flying quads, start saving and get yourself a X-BL for some outdoor fun.

    Cheers,

    Josh

  • I order one to ship to Brazil. I'm concern becouse until now don't receive any in formation about my item from Snelflight. When you order yours, the transaction as quick? You get some problems? Thanks.

  • I've ordered two and both took about a week to get to me in Australia. I hope yours doesn't get lost in transit, but it'll be worth the wait once it comes.

  • I am looking into buying one of these, and was wondering how much they are in australia?

  • I haven't mastered mine yet, you make me envious.

  • Unless I'm wrong, I went over to the shop of X-UFO, and the X-BL, if google is right, is over 1,000 dollars. Is this true? I cant see my self spending that much on a RC item that can break just as easy as it can fly :(

  • does it have a mechanical gyro or electric? and how do you use a regular receiver? great video btw!
