NASA launches Space Shuttle Endeavor, starting mission STS-123 on a 16-day trip to the International Space Station. 2:28am, March 11, 2008. Sadly, there was cloud cover, and just a few seconds after liftoff, Endeavor pierced through the clouds and the light show was over as quickly as it started.

  • is this from the park in titusville near the bridge?

  • Aye, it is. It's about 9 miles (give or take) away from the shuttle pad. The sidewalk in the park had stars in it (one each for the various astronauts that have participated in the program). There was a big, curved, roman-numeral "II" sculpture right behind me as I shot this.

  • Beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks :) It may have only lasted under a minute, but it was absolutely gorgeous :) It really did light up the whole sky.

  • AUDIO?!

  • Yes. There was some. No, it wasn't worth encoding and uploading. There was a small crowd counting down to zero, then cheering when it launched. I did continue recording all the way through the launch until the "rumble," but didn't expect anyone would want to watch (and listen to) two minutes of essentially nothing, just to hear a bit of crackling.

Try turning off your CAPS LOCK next time -- you likely didn't need to SHOUT your witty, insightful obversation.

  • ya. But i was bummed. But we were on the LCC. and about an hour later Steve Lindsey (a fellow astronaut) was there. He has been above in the T-38s watching the area and he said it was a small glow and all of the sudden it just popped out of the clouds. Im so jealous. lol

  • wow, i was less than a hundred yards from there in one of the condos. did you hear the apollo 13 soundtrack playing? i had it up pretty loud and timed it just right with the launch.

  • Its pretty cool how you can see the shuttle get lost in the clouds and atmosphere.
