Operating with a Yaesu FT-817ND from 11,950ft on Trinchera Peak in the Sangre De Cristo mountains in southern Colorado. Antenna is a Par End Fedz 10/20/40. Listening to a pile-up for UW5ZM in Ukraine.
I reached this location after a beautiful early morning ride on my motorcycle (KLR650) and set up shop for a little QRP work. Using the Par End Fedz antenna makes antenna setup a snap! no worries about feedline or cords getting tangled! Just pull one end up with 550 cord, and then throw the RG-174 coax over another branch for the other side. If you're trees are tall enough you could set it up in a sloper, vertical position as well. I was a able to make a handful of contacts from this location without too much work. Got into VA, PA, WI, KY, with 5 watts SSB on 20m.
It's a fantastic antenna and consistently brings in good signal reports, especially for a QRP station.Very easy to tune, and reasonable cost ($75) They should have an 80m model available in late 2010 that I'm eagerly waiting for. These antennas are very simple to erect, and work great horizontal, vertical, etc.
