Students, faculty and community members came together today to speak out against the abrupt firing of President Lariviere by the State Board of Higher Education. Although I have some qualms about the Occupy Eugene movement using the University of Oregon's misfortune to bring attention to their cause, I do think that there are a number of issues that go hand in hand with each other when it comes to state control over financing and decisions within my college that are detrimental to my education. On the other hand, I think it's a bit ignorant of the Occupy Eugene movement to come onto our campus and try to tell us what we should be caring about, which evidently, in their eyes isn't the firing of a perfectly competent president trying to make radical changes for the betterment of the University of Oregon.
